The Beauty of a Button

In my world, I've got my "staple stores" and my "yeah, right" stores.

For instance, Target is one of my staple stores. I just can't say enough good things about Target. . .I even love their commercials. I'd like to meet some of their marketing team and give them props on their creativity. To me, Target ranks right up there with apple pie and baseball in the realm of all things Americana. I visit a Target store no less than once a week, perusing their clothing aisles and buying most of my groceries there. If I was a contestant on the Price is Right, and they featured items from a Target store, I am confident I would make it through to the Showcase Showdown. So, you catch my drift on what I mean by a staple store. . . .

And, then there are the "yeah, right" stores. These are the stores I really have no business being in. They are the stores that will bust a budget quickly. Anthropologie is one of my "yeah, right" stores.

I remember the first time I walked into Anthropologie--I was in Arizona and I had never heard of it before. I was window shopping and happened upon it. I thought, "Oh, what a cute store with cute things!" And, then I browsed the store and realized that the cute things were expensive cute things. Dangerous. Recently, a friend bought me a scarf to wear in my hair from Anthropologie--I'll use the same adjective here--cute.

Over the past few years, whenever I visit Anthropologie, I usually head right for the sale section because I know full well that the most I could afford in the regular-priced items might be a button or a cuff of a sleeve.

The sale section, though, is a slippery slope. Ever noticed that something becomes so much more attractive when it's on sale? The internal dialogue begins, consisting of, "Oh, wow--this is now only $19--and look how much it was to begin with!"

So--I continue to window shop at my "yeah, right" stores--making an occasional sale purchase--and I stick with the staple stores for the everyday. Because, let's face it--what am I going to do with a drawer-full of buttons and cuffs of sleeves?

Hey Beth-
Just wanted to let you know that I sent you a proof. Let me know if you didn't get it. Thanks!

Jenny
I cannot believe that I live 40 minutes from Anthropologie and have never been there. It might have a little something to do with my aversion to the mall! LOL!

Thanks for your comment on my blog last night. I'm sorry you didn't win my giveaway, BUT, I'm hosting another one, so if you're interested in a book, then check it out!

I love the pictures in the above post about your daughter and the dance with her daddy. So sweet, and she such a cutie!

Blessings,
Meredith

Beth-- you are just plain funny-- I laugh almost every time I read your stuff.
We are 2 peas in a pod when it comes to stores and our categories. Love the "yeah right" tag.
