Merry Christmas! Joy List #25

1) This face on Christmas morning















For some reason, I thought we would be getting up at the crack of dawn today, but we actually slept in until 7:30. . and J and I were up before the girls! (I'm sure that's the last year for that to happen for awhile.) And, Carly would have probably slept even longer than 7:30, but I tiptoed in her room after we heard a thud from that part of the house (thinking maybe she had rolled out of bed). As I peeked towards her bed, she opened her eyes, and then it was all over. "Merry Christmas, Carly!"

We opened stocking gifts first and then we pointed out that Santa had left a bag of gifts for Carly and Hannah (I think Carly thought that it was an actual wrapped present for someone.) J and I loved how Carly wanted to play with each stocking gift that she received--as opposed to just tearing through everything and not even stopping to appreciate them.

Some of Carly's other favorite gifts: a massive quantity of ponies (and all the appropriate accessories for combing, brushing, braiding and "decorating" their hair), Cariboo Cranium game, My Little Sandbox, a Cinderella doll. . . Some of Hannah's favorites: pop beads (I had these when I was little--they are great!), stacking cups and a baby book with beads.
















4) Carly and her cousin, Hudson
We went over to Aunt Meggan and Uncle Trent's house this evening so the kids could open presents. . . Hudson is about 6 weeks older than Hannah and such a CUTIE!

Sorry- but I have to say again, that picture of Carly sleeping is wonderful. When you get a minute, can you attach it to an email for me? I would love to "play" with it and send it back to you!

Messy and Loud, Please

This morning, we found ourselves back at a place that evokes so many emotions in me.  Cook Children’s Medical Center.  Hannah had to be there at 6:30 AM for a surgery to remove a cyst above her eye.  The cyst had been there for over 6 months and though it wasn’t a concern, it needed to be removed so it didn’t pose a problem in the future.  So, we found ourselves in one of the happily-decorated waiting rooms, listening to Doc McStuffins, as multiple medical personnel walked by the windows.  Most of them smiled, some kindly waved at Hannah. I wondered what each of their specialities was—how many children they had seen through the night, how grave or hopeful each prognosis was. . . Wasn't it just February?

For what it's worth, I've written many blog posts in my head since February. I've blogged about Carly's dance recital from May, our trips to Florida and Omaha this summer, swim lessons, the first day of preschool for Carly and Hannah, and multiple in-between moments that represent this stage of life for our family. But, I just haven't gotten them typed from my head to the computer. Two years ago in December, I blogged once a day for 25 days about Things that Bring Joy . It was a fun thing to do but was definitely difficult, at times. So, I'm starting with baby steps. I'm hoping to blog once a week (yikes! I'm going from once every 9 months to once every week. Ha! Ha!) But, I very much want to capture my family's memories in these posts. Last year, I printed a book of my blog for my mom. A Must-Read

I don't remember how I first came upon Ruth Chou Simon's blog, GraceLaced.  It was several years ago, and I was captivated by her incredible paintings immediately.  Along with her gift of creating, she has tremendous wisdom and faith, so her words are rich with encouragement and truth.  This is what has brought me back to her blog time and again.  So, when her 2nd book, Beholding and Becoming:  The Art of Everyday Worship  came out just last week, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the book launch team.  What an honor! This book captures so well how to lean into the Lord and set our gaze upon Him in our "dailies".  Especially in our world of technology-ridden lives, it becomes easy to worship other things.  Ruth encourages us to abide in the Lord in all ways.  Her genuineness and vulnerability are evident throughout the pages.  What a gift to read these pages and soak in the beauty of Ruth's paintings--truly a gift to my heart...
